‘Our choir is packed full of different personalities, those who love to do a solo, those who prefer to stand at the back, as well as those who after time
feel confident to try more and more as they learn.’

About Us

Here at the Wey Community Gospel Choir we are passionate about connecting people through singing.  We believe music has a great power to unite, to create a sense of community and to boost our wellbeing.

We offer plenty of opportunities to grow as a singer, at the same time as welcoming all abilities. The choir is a place to develop your skills, whoever you are, as well as somewhere to embrace the joy of singing as a group.  Most of our repertoire is gospel music, although we do incorporate other styles
that give a similarly uplifting message.

Of course what we want more than anything is to facilitate people singing together, our choir is more than just places to sing, they are places to meet friends too. We have regular socials to encourage everyone to feel part of the
choir family.

We are fully inclusive and our members come from all backgrounds and religious persuasions (or none).

There are no auditions, and no need to be able to read music. We teach to all ages and abilities. We have performed in a variety of settings which include private functions, weddings, churches, prisons, residential homes and schools.

We have a great social life as a community including trips and other engagements. Many of our memberships join for our weekly pub trips alone!

‘We have often stood in a small moment of silence after we have finished a song – sometimes before we burst out laughing because it’s gone so wrong, but sometimes just in appreciation of the beautiful sound that we are able to make together.  It’s always special.’

Our Team

Bekah Nelson - Director

Our Choir Director Bekah has been singing Whitney Houston tracks since the age of 2, growing up in a Baptist church her roots are in Gospel and Soul Music.

Bekah studied Viola, Violin and Singing at Trinity College of Music and Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Bekah started WCGC in Guildford with Naomi Weeks in 2014 and has loved running it ever since.

As well as being a professional musician and Music Psychotherapist / Psychotherapist (Meraki Creative Therapies) her all time favourite job is being a Mother to two little ones 🙂 For those of you who know her she spends a lot of her time giggling, drinking cocktails from a teapot and some of her happiest times are when she is singing.

David Hyde - Pianist

Dave is our wonderful MD and piano player at rehearsals.

With years of experience in the music industry as both a professional musician and Music Producer we are VERY lucky to have him with us. To come hear his awesomeness and see that famous smiling face of his, head to our Wednesday night rehearsal (not to be missed!)
